Fresh Ceramics was on home ground at the Freshwater Festival Street Fiesta on Saturday, 22 August 2026, joining families, local businesses and community groups for one of the suburb’s favourite events.
Held on Old Smithfield Road from 10am to 4pm, the fiesta had live music, a licensed bar, market stalls, food vans and plenty to keep the children entertained.
It was one of those beautiful sunny Cairns days. Around 150 people were moving between the gazebos during our visit, and the food vans were drawing a steady crowd.
We set up in the ceramics gazebo alongside several other local ceramic artists, with a selection of Fresh Ceramics pieces for sale. The tables were filled with pots, plates, bowls, salt and pepper shakers and other handmade pieces. Things began quietly, but interest picked up as more people arrived and wandered through the stalls.

There was plenty to explore beyond the ceramics, from plants and locally produced gin to community groups such as The Agile Project – Wildlife Rescue, a Far North Queensland charity involved in wildlife rescue, research and habitat restoration.
The festival was supported by Limberlost Nursery, Vines Cafe and Cairns Regional Council.
Thank you to the organisers, volunteers, performers and stallholders—and to everyone who stopped by for a look or a chat. It was a great day for Freshwater and a reminder of what makes this such a welcoming place to live.
